ALITO BACKED END TO RULE OF LAW AS REAGAN OFFICIAL
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito defended the right of government officials to do anything they wanted for purposes of national security, or 'any other purposes for that matter', when he worked at the Reagan Justic Department, an echo of President Bush's rationale for spying on U.S. residents in the war on terror. Then an assistant to the Solicitor general, Alito wrote a 1984 memo that in which he argued that past Supreme Court ruling had established the legal precedent that the rule of law was unconstitutional. While some pundits were quick to point out the legal inconsistencies in this line of thought, others claimed it was more of a 'grey' area.
